We woke this morning and saw a stretch limousine pull into the car park......so we have deduced that Catherine Zeta-Jones must be visiting her mother and lying low to avoid higher Coronavirus levels in America. We have been keeping our eyes peeled ever since. Maybe she is staying with Tom Jones in Pontypridd. As I write the blog we are listening to Radio 2 and hear ‘Sex Bomb’ by Tom Jones and Janice has had to stop me dancing lustily in the van where other drivers could see me.
The morning was drizzly but we managed a walk along the coastal path to the bay at Rotherslade with nice beach huts, golden sands and surfers in the water.
Our plans for the day revolved around cycling back into Swansea to visit the National Waterside Museum. We had booked our visit online two days ago so for once we were pre-prepared. The cycle into Swansea was all along the promenade. Google Maps told us that the time for cars to travel was 27 minutes and for cycling it was 22 minutes.....as hardly worth the drive. The Museum is in the redeveloped Dockland area and was very pretty with many leisure boats in the docks.
When I see all the leisure boats (non of them being used) I immediately think ‘money laundering’. Police cynicism never leaves you!
The Museum was good. It was a modern building and had some good social history of industrial Wales and some nice archive videos. It was even better because it was free. It had a music exhibition that included Mary Hopkin who had a No1 hit in 1968 ‘Those were the days my friend’ and later represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Knock knock who’s there’ which came second. Also, Bonnie Tyler got a good mention in the exhibition too.
We didn’t go into the centre but saw the statue of local poet Dylan Thomas. I vaguely remember doing some of his poems in English Lit but he didn’t inspire me then and he doesn’t inspire me now either.
I think they could only do a sculpture of him sitting down because he drank so much he couldn’t stand long enough for the sculptor!
We did admire the beach views.
What a city beach. Any Spanish City would be jealous.....and it has a promenade that wasn’t paid for by the EU.
On the way back we stopped to have a look around the town and shops of Mumbles.
Janice has been eating rather too much seafood recently....and it’s starting to show. She ordered this with chips!
Oystermouth Castle at Mumbles. It has stopped my castle cravings for today. All in all, a good day.
