A bad case of nostalgia

Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th September 2020 - Lower Hasguard, near Little Haven.

We had a lovely awakening to a sunny sea view at Dale.  We had coffee sitting on the pebbly beach overlooking the refineries of Milford Haven or as I prefer to call it...Aberdaugleddau.  It was a  lot better than you may think.....

The picture is a bit dark because I took it into the sun.  You can make out the tall towers at the refinery. There were oystercatchers on the beach too.

We left the van where it was and walked around St Ann’s Head.  The morning was glorious.

This beach could have been the landing point for Henry VII in 1485 when he landed with around 2000 French mercenaries before crossing the country to defeat Richard III at Bosworth.  That’s one up for the Lancastrians!

The view of  glorious Marloes Beach with glorious me!!  I remember the beach from when I was a child.

We had a fantastic walk for about 3 hours and still got back to the van before lunch.  We drove on to our new CL which is centrally placed on the same peninsula.  It turned out to be about half a mile from another private site where Andy & Lene had booked into for the last night of their trip.  In the evening we walked up to them and had a last night social.  The evening gave me a startling revelation.  For years I have been blamed for being the bad influence on Andy whereas Andy has been a calming influence for me.....however, you should have seen the rate he was filling up my glass with red wine.  I now realise that Andy has been surreptitiously, and regularly, been getting me drunk in an effort to appear to be the sensible guy.  Well...I’ve got your number now.  Joking aside, we had a good night finishing off the stocks of wine and snacks before they travel home.  We walked back to our van in pitch darkness with a clear star filled sky.  It’s a pity I know very little about what constellations are which.  Orion, the Plough and if I’m lucky I can pick out Cassiopeia.

I had concluded that the site that Andy & Lene had stayed on was probably the same site that I had stayed in as a child in my parent’s caravan.  It had changed a little but the outlook, field shape and distance from Little Haven is the same.  I am getting nice warm nostalgia memories flooding back and even nicer on what would have been my Dad’s 91st birthday.  Don’t worry about my nostalgia....apparently it clears up with a course of prescribed cream.

This morning (Sunday) was similar to others.  We got ready and cycled to St Bride’s Bay to start another coastal walk.  The car park was full of scuba divers getting ready to dive.

We walked through to Martin’s Haven with more superb views.  We even saw a seal pup and parents on a beach just a bit too far away for us to get a decent photo.

Skomer Island behind me.

We had lunch by the coastguard station and had a discussion about what the man inside did all day?  Why coastguards always have a white beard?

We walked back via Marloes village and did the most important thing......

The best cake of the trip so far. Carrot cake trumps Welsh Cakes any day.

A short bike ride back from St Bride’s and we moved the van to a sideways position to get the fridge to work.  It doesn’t work if we are on too much of a slope and I do prefer my milk to be chilled on my cereal in the morning.  Success....we had ice cream for tea that looked and tasted like ice cream and my cereal satisfaction should be assured for the morning.
