My cousin Alice has won the food guessing competition. The answer was, of course, Welsh Rarebit. I feel a bit silly because I didn’t take a picture of the food before I ate it. Anyway, think of what cheese on toast looks like and add a few tomatoes and a bit of chutney on the side and that’s what Welsh Rarebit looks like.
We were impatient to get to the seaside today and we drove caerphilly through the ‘Valleys’ to have a coffee stop at Caerphilly. What a superb castle they have. It’s the biggest castle in Wales.
The moat was big too. It was quite a thing just to walk around the outside of it. I also had a little prior knowledge that Caerphilly had a statue of Tommy Cooper as he was born here..... ‘just like that, no, just like that’.
I can’t look at him without laughing. We are rather sad that we didn’t get to Pontypridd to see Tom Jones’ birthplace but you can’t do everything can you. We would have to content ourselves by driving through Swansea, where Harry Secombe came from on our way to The Mumbles, where Catherine Zeta-Jones comes from.....wasn’t she good in The Darling Buds of May.....phoar! She is 50 years old, she missed her chance with me.....I don’t know what she saw in the famous actor, millionaire Michael Douglas! Also, coincidentally it turns out that Harry Secombe and Tommy Cooper would both have been 100 next year if they were still alive.
Next question, what do you do when you go to the seaside? Answer; have fish & chips and mushy peas.
It was a good job we didn’t ask for the large portion of chips because there was loads. So much so that we had to walk along the prom and out to the lighthouse.
The weather was rather poor though but it was good to climb over rock pools and get back before the tide cut us off. We have decided to wild camp tonight in one of the car parks overlooking the sea. May get out for a walk around the headland this evening.
Here’s a Tommy Cooper favourite....”the wife went up in the attic today. Dirty, smelly and covered in cobwebs. But she’s good with the kids.”
Sounds like an interesting little trail you're on there, bet those fish n chips disappeared " just like that" ๐๐
